30+Years UNT Faculty RISD Faculty Engineering Background Interdisciplinary Designer Innovation Strategist
I believe design education is most powerful when it helps students learn how to think critically, connect ideas, synthesize diverse perspectives, and navigate complexity—not simply produce artifacts. My teaching approach is grounded in the belief that design is both a creative discipline and a human-centered method for inquiry, communication, systems understanding, and innovation.
Drawing upon experience in engineering, industrial design, UX, human-centered design, and innovation strategy, I encourage students to view design as a bridge connecting creativity, technology, communication, culture, and human experience. My courses emphasize research, empathy, collaboration, and real-world application, helping students develop the confidence and skills needed to address meaningful challenges.
At the University of North Texas and the Rhode Island School of Design, students have engaged in community-based research, stakeholder interviews, interdisciplinary collaboration, and human-centered design projects that extend learning beyond the classroom. I regularly connect students with industry professionals, designers, and innovators to help them understand how design operates within broader organizational, technological, and social systems.
I am committed to inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learning styles, perspectives, and lived experiences. I view cognitive diversity and interdisciplinary thinking as valuable sources of creativity, insight, and innovation.
As emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and increasing systems complexity reshape the future of design, I strive to prepare students to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate across disciplines, and design with empathy, ethics, and systems awareness.
My goal is to help students become thoughtful, innovative, and future-ready designers who can create meaningful impact in the world.
